The objective of the PhD thesis is to investigate novel routing paradigms for wireless mesh networks with heterogeneous resources, which support traffic balancing to increase throughput without incurring in high delay. Cooperative diversity and network coding techniques may be combined with opportunistic routing to face the typical wireless mesh network limitations. The necessity of a new routing paradigm has become an attractive research area due to the wireless networks limitations. This thesis will give a significant contribute to this attractive research area, with the main idea of developing novel paradigms for real-life networks to improve their performance.
